Spaanse Water is the wide inland bay on the south-east of the island — a sheltered lagoon ringed by villas, private docks, mangroves and the open Caribbean a short channel away. It's where Curaçao keeps its boats and where most of the island's serious waterfront villas sit.
It isn't a beach district and it isn't a restaurant strip. People stay here because they want space, water views, a pool of their own and the option of stepping onto a boat from the bottom of the garden.

The atmosphere
A day on the bay.
Morning
The water is flat. Sailboats sit at their moorings, a paddleboarder crosses the lagoon, the only real sound is rigging on masts. Coffee on a terrace overlooking the bay — most days you don't see a neighbour.
Afternoon
Boats head out to Klein Curaçao and the south coast reefs. Inside the lagoon it stays quiet. A long lunch on a covered terrace, the pool to yourself, kids in and out of the water all afternoon.
Sunset
The light turns soft over the mangroves. People sit on docks with a drink and watch the boats come home. Caracasbaai, ten minutes away, gets the best free sunset on this side of the island.
Evening
Dinner is on the terrace more often than out. When you go out, you drive — Jan Thiel for restaurants, Pietermaai for a proper night. Home before midnight, the lagoon completely still.

The bay is sheltered, the channel to the open Caribbean is short, and almost every villa has either a dock or a mooring. For people who want to be near, on, or in the water — there isn't a better address on the island.

Spaanse Water is the sailing centre of the island. Day-charters, sunset sails and bareboat options leave from inside the bay.

Half-day trips to Klein Curaçao, the Tugboat wreck, Caracasbaai and the south-coast reefs. Most villas can arrange a boat at the dock.

Diving & snorkeling
The Tugboat, Director's Bay and the Caracasbaai reefs are five minutes away. Easy shore-dives, calm water, good for beginners.
