The atmosphere
A day on the west coast.
Morning
First light on the cliffs. You drive ten minutes to Grote Knip and have the whole bay to yourself for an hour. Coffee from a thermos, the sand still cool, the water completely flat.
Afternoon
Locals from Willemstad arrive on weekends; midweek the beaches stay quiet. A long lunch at Bahia or Jaanchies, a swim, a doze under the sea-grape trees. The wind picks up by three.
Sunset
The west-facing bays catch the full sunset. Playa Kalki and Watamula are the favourite spots — the sun drops straight into the Caribbean, a green flash on the clearest evenings.
Evening
Everything quiets down early. A handful of restaurants open until ten, then nothing. The villages go dark, the sky fills with stars, and you hear the surf from a long way off.

Kleine Knip
Grote Knip's smaller, even quieter twin five minutes south. A tiny crescent with shade trees, calm shallow water and just enough room for everyone — until a tour bus arrives, then you move to Grote.
Playa Kalki
The far north-western tip of the island. A small white-sand beach beside the famous Alice in Wonderland dive site — snorkelers see plenty straight from the shore.
Playa Lagun
A small fishing-village bay between cliffs. The fishermen pull boats up on the right; the snorkeling on the left wall is among the best on the island — turtles most mornings.
Cas Abao
South of Westpunt, halfway back to Willemstad. Long white sand, a proper beach restaurant, loungers and a small entrance fee. The classic Curaçao beach day.
Diving & snorkeling
Why divers stay on this end of the island.
Westpunt sits next to a stretch of reef most divers consider the best in the southern Caribbean. The famous sites are five to fifteen minutes from the harbour, and most of them are gentle enough that confident snorkelers see plenty too.

Mushroom Forest
Mushroom-shaped coral heads in shallow water — one of the most photographed dive sites in the Caribbean. Boat dive, fifteen minutes from Westpunt.

Alice in Wonderland
Two long parallel reefs descending in tiers off Playa Kalki. Easy depth, slow drift, healthy coral. The site that put Westpunt on the dive map.

Watamula
The far north-west point — strong current, big walls, the most prolific marine life on the island. For experienced divers only. Boat departs from Westpunt harbour.

Playa Lagun wall
Shore dive or snorkel. Drop in off the left-hand cliff, follow the wall, turtles and tarpon most mornings. Easy enough for a beginner.

Snorkeling Playa Kalki
Wade in off the beach, swim out fifty metres, look down. The coral starts in three metres of water — no boat, no certification, no plan needed.
Nature
Christoffel Park, Shete Boka and the wild north coast.
Two of the island's three big nature reserves sit on Westpunt's doorstep. Most guests do them once each — early in the morning, before the heat — and remember them as the best day of the trip.
Christoffel Park
The island's national park. Twenty kilometres of trails through divi-divi and cactus forest, iguanas and rare deer, and a 375-metre peak you can climb before breakfast for the only view of the whole island. Gates open at six.
Shete Boka
The wild north coast just east of Westpunt. Black volcanic rock, three blowholes, surf hitting the cliffs and sea turtles nesting in season. A 30-minute coastal walk most visitors underestimate.
Watamula sinkhole
A perfectly circular collapse on the cliffs at the island's far tip. Stand on the edge, watch the surf pulse through the hole below you. A short walk from where you park.
Flamingos at Sint Willibrordus
Twenty minutes south. The salt-pans hold a resident flamingo colony — best light is the hour before sunset, from the road along the lagoon.

Local, simple, and a drive south when you want more.
Westpunt isn't a restaurant district. A handful of local kitchens, fresh fish off the boats, and the better cliffside dinners are twenty-five minutes south at Coral Estate.

Fresh fish off the boats that morning. No menu most days — ask what's good and sit with your feet near the sand.

A Curaçao institution. Owner Jaanchie recites the menu from memory. Iguana stew is the famous order; the fresh fish is the better one.
